his kindness yet pursues me

Today the words of an old hymn have played over and over in my mind … and it seems these words have significance in my moment of quiet tonight.  It is my prayer that God will tune my heart … tightening the strings of my heart as necessary to stretch it into an instrument of praise.  His kindness still pursues me … as he intercedes for me … clothing me in his righteousness … binding my heart to himself.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming lov
e.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

 

 

Waiting quietly …
         His faithfulness renewing
                    … mind, spirit, body
 

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning;  great is HIS faithfulness.  I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;   therefore I will wait for him.”   The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. ~Lamentations 3:22-26
