sleepy ear of my soul

I found this snippet of  poetry online … it speaks of the still heart morphing into the listening heart …

A still Heart
Burns silently within.
Its quiet passion,
Its dynamic stillness
moves so gently and quietly
Into the listening heart
Yet hovers ready, encircling
The hard and cold heart:
As warmth softening,
As Truth revealing
As Love stirring,
A Love so silently enlivening …

I run to my sanctuary … tonight … the inner place … quiet, still, the place where warmth, love, peace flow mingled together .. where the Spirit bids me sit, rest, reflect.  The sanctuary of the heart … I enter there weary, wounded … I pause, breathe in life …  I smile … joyfully accept the grace and comfort he offers.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. ~Ps. 28:7

The sanctuary … not restricted to brick and mortar … not restricted to shrines, temples, cathedrals … but the place where we meet God … where our sense of him is heightened … still, quiet, the holy place … where like a child we cozy up to our Father, Abba … the place reserved for listening … intently … intentionally …  to his love for us …

Help me God,
To have insight into the nocturnal language of the soul,
with its wide variety of images and richly textured emotions.
I am only a child, O God,
and I know so little of the love you have for me,
so little of the plans you have for me,
so little of the hopes and dreams …

and I long to feel the covers as you tuck them under my chin,
sense your touch as you kiss me goodnight,
and hear your voice as you whisper your love
in the sleepy ear of my soul ….
